New Delhi: The BJP is convinced that the Opposition, activists and Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) are agitating because they want a regime change.

Student leader Neha Bora’s comment “Bangladesh showed us the way” triggered a war of words between the ruling party and those who are protesting against alleged irregularities in Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise of electoral rolls.

All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora is heard saying in an undated interview that the Gen-Z movement that India is witnessing began in Bangladesh.

“The Gen-Z movement we are seeing everywhere in this country first started in Bangladesh and congratulations to you for showing us the way and extending solidarity to the young people of this country,” Neha says in the clip shared by the BJP leader.

BJP’s national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari, who shared the clip on social media, pounced on Neha, claiming this is an “open admission of regime change”.

Senior advocate Prashant Bhushan defended the demand for a change in government and said such a call was legitimate in a democracy.

“There will definitely be a regime change. We all want a regime change. Is there anything wrong,” Bhushan said at a press conference, pointing out that the saffron party had itself protested against governments in the past.

“BJP protested multiple times for regime change and then they say they are teaching conspiracy for regime change,” Bhushan said.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra then alleged that the Opposition’s campaign was not restricted to the SIR, claiming that Rahul Gandhi and others were seeking to create political instability.

Accusing them of attempting to “stage a coup”, Patra said: “This country does not belong to anyone personally, nor does it belong to anyone or any one family. This country belongs to its 1.4 billion people.”
