New Delhi: A senior military commander of Hamas, who headed the Palestinian militant group’s aerial operations a week ago, has been killed in Israeli airstrikes.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Saturday that Murad Abu Murad was killed after the military launched targeted attacks.
Fighter jets were used over the past 24 hours to strike an operational centre of Hamas, from where the group carried out its ‘aerial activity’, IDF said.
According to The Times of Israel, Abu Murad “took a big part in directing terrorists during the massacre” last weekend, which included attackers who entered Israel from the air on hang gliders.
The IDF claimed it hit dozens of sites belonging to Hamas’ commando forces.
Hamas launched a wave of attacks on Israel from ground, air and sea, killing hundreds of people.
Israel immediatelt declared a state of war.
Over 1,300 people have lost their lives in Israel and around 1,550 people in Israeli counter-airstrikes in Gaza.
