Tel Aviv: Cinema halls and multiplexes are still closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic – not just in India but in most countries.
The Tel Aviv municipality in Israel, however, has devised a novel way to lure movie-goers out of their homes, with adequate social distancing measures to guard against coronavirus. They have launched a floating cinema on the waters of Yarkon Park lake in Tel Aviv, the capital city.
The sail-in cinema provides seating aboard 70 pedal and rowing boats, two metres apart to maintain social distancing.
Two films are being screened every evening during the last week of August. The first screening was attended by about 200 people.
Israel managed to contain the coronavirus in May-June, but has been hit by a second wave of infections. The country has so far reported about 1 lakh COVID-19 positive cases and 795 deaths.
