Hyderabad: Ram Charan has opened up about filming some of the most memorable sequences in Buchi Babu Sana’s ‘Peddi’, which hit theatres in June.
While the film received appreciation for its core storyline, Janhvi Kapoor’s character portrayal drew criticism.
Ahead of the film’s world television premiere in Hindi, Ram reflected on the experience of shooting the sports action drama and recalled the scenes that left a lasting impression on him.
Speaking about the film’s most challenging sequences, the actor said, “There are quite a few scenes in the film. I can’t say just one or two scenes. There are many scenes related to cricket, and there are many wrestling scenes as well. One of the most interesting scenes for me was the cricket auction scene, where the hero is auctioned off for just one rupee to play.”
He added, “The way the drama unfolds around him and how he gets recognition was very interesting to me. The wrestling scenes were very intense, too. After losing everything, when he goes to his guru and pleads with him, requesting him to train him, those scenes were very nice.”
Ram also spoke about the emotionally charged hospital sequence in which his character discovers that he can no longer pursue wrestling.
Although the scene was emotionally demanding, the actor said the team managed to complete it in just eight hours.
“By then, all the actors, including myself, were so immersed in the film. Our director had spent many days thinking through and planning the shoot, but we finished shooting the entire scene in just one day, within just eight hours. That was possible because everybody was so cooperative. It is one of the scenes closest to my heart,” he said.
Set in 1990s Andhra Pradesh, ‘Peddi’ follows a sportsman who takes up multiple sporting disciplines to fight for his town’s rights and secure government recognition.
According to Sacnilk, the film earned ₹244.64 crore net in India and ₹341.90 crore worldwide.
The Ram Charan-starrer will have its world television premiere in Hindi on Sony MAX on October 24 at 8 PM. The film is also available to stream on Netflix.
