Bhubaneswar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Jagat Prakash Nadda is set to arrive in Bhubaneswar at around 11 am on Thursday for a one-day visit to Odisha.
According to the party’s general secretary, Jatin Mohanty, he will attend a series of party events and give further impetus to the ongoing mega membership drive launched in the state from September 3, before departing for New Delhi in the afternoon. “Nadda’s visit is aimed at boosting our Sadasyata Abhiyan, or membership drive, to make it more inclusive,” Mohanty said, emphasising that party workers are the backbone of the organisation.
The BJP president will first pay homage to the statute of Dr BR Ambedkar at AG Square and then attend a meeting of intellectuals. After the interaction, he will hold discussions on the membership drive at party headquarters. He is slated to meet ministers, MPs, MLAs, and state office bearers at the state party office here to discuss strategies to increase party membership and further expansion of its base in Odisha, sources said.
In the previous membership drive held six years ago, the BJP claimed to have enrolled 42 lakh members in the state. This year, the party aims to add five lakh new members. For membership enrollment, the BJP has provided a toll-free number: 8800002024.
Notably, this is Nadda’s first visit to the state after the BJP government assumed power.
