Puri: In a significant initiative, Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has decided to set up a dedicated baby feeding room within the shrine complex in Odisha’s Puri town.
Sources said this initiative aims to provide a comfortable, hygienic, and private space for nursing mothers. The dedicated space for breastfeeding will be of immense help to women devotees visiting the 12th century with infants.
SJTA shared information about this development in a post on its X handle.
The special breastfeeding room will be located near the office of the temple administration branch within the temple premises. Special care will be taken to ensure privacy, cleanliness, and comfort for both mothers and infants. A dedicated female assistant will be appointed to manage the facility.
Chief Administrator of SJTA Arabinda Kumar Padhee has instructed departmental officials to implement this initiative on a priority basis, ensuring that the room is well equipped to meet the needs of nursing mothers and their infants. Officials of the temple administration have held detailed discussion on the matter and identified a suitable location for the establishment of this dedicated breastfeeding room.
This decision comes after long-standing demands for such a facility, particularly considering the large number of female devotees visiting the 12th century shrine in the seaside pilgrim town.
