Keonjhar: In a daring daylight heist, armed robbers looted a jewellery shop at Harichandanpur bazaar in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Wednesday.
Armed with guns and machetes, the robbers opened fire in the air to terrorise employees of the jewellery shop as well as onlookers, and decamped with gold ornaments worth several lakhs of rupees, sources said.
Locals said around five men arrived on two motorcycles and barged into the jewellery outlet. The miscreants brandished pistols and fired in the air to scare people around.
In a highly swift operation, the robbers looted gold ornaments as well as cash before fleeing.
After getting information about the incident, Harichandanpur police swung into action and sealed all exit routes. A hunt has been launched for the robbers, who reportedly moved towards a nearby forest. A search operation is underway to trace and apprehend the robbers, police said.
