Jewellery Worth Rs 12 Lakh, Cash Looted From Govt Quarters On Vani Vihar Campus In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Unidentified miscreants broke into a government quarters on Vani Vihar, the Utkal University campus in Odisha capital, and decamped with gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 12 lakh laptop, Rs 2 lakh in cash, DSLR camera and other valuables.

The theft reportedly took place in the evening of Maha Shivratri when the family members were not at home.

Manoranjan Jena, a varsity employee who stays in the quarters, has lodged a police complaint in this regard.

“We went out at around 5.40 pm. On returning home around 7.30 pm, we found the main door open and the lights turned off. The miscreants had cut the electric wires. When we entered the house, we found the wardrobe open and the valuables missing,” Jena told the media.

Vani Vihar police are probing the case and have collected fingerprints from the spot.

“The robbers have taken away everything including the gold and silver ornaments that we had purchased with our hard-earned money. They even took away my child’s piggy bank,” said Manoranjan’s wife, who is a physiotherapist.
