Jharapada Jail Inmates In Bhubaneswar To Read Bhagavad Gita

Bhubaneswar: Inmates of Jharapada special jail in Odisha capital will now read the Bhagavad Gita. As part of the reform measures to bring a positive impact on the prisoners, the jail authorities have taken this initiative.

According to sources, the initiative was launched in the Jharpada special jail on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri on Saturday.

With the kind permission of Director General Prisons Manoj Chhabra, a 27-member team from International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), Bhubaneswar visited the jail on the occasion of Shivratri.

The team members held a special programme for two hours for the jail inmates in the morning. All the inmates of the prison including women participated in the programme.

Copies of the Bhagavad Gita, japamali and prasad were by the  distributed among inmates. These books will be kept in the jail library from where the prisoners can take these every day during stipulated time. After reading, they are requiired to keep the books back in the library.

Jail Superintendent Satya Prakash Swain said the unique initiative was made with the permission of the DG Prisons and expressed the hope that it will have a positive impact on the minds of the prisoners.
