New Delhi: The Jharkhand High Court has reserved its verdict in the defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks against Amit Shah in 2018.

Justice Ambujnath has also instructed both sides to file the synopsis of the arguments by Wednesday (May 17).

The defamation case was filed by a local BJP leader, Navin Jha, after Rahul Gandhi allegedly made objectionable remarks against the then BJP’s National president Amit Shah at a Congress party gathering in Chaibasa in 2018. The petitioner submitted that the statement had hurt his sentiment and tarnished the image of the party. He had filed a petition in the lower court regarding this. Later, the matter reached the Jharkhand High Court.

Notably, three cases are going on against Rahul in Jharkhand

The Congress leader has already got relief in the ‘Modi surname’ defamation case with Patna High Court staying the lower court’s order till May 15. He was convicted by a Surat court over his “why all the thieves have Modi in their name” barb and was subsequently disqualified as a Lok Sabha MP.
