Chennai: A television journalist is battling for his life after being brutally attacked by a group of unidentified persons in Tamil Nadu.
Nesa Prabhu, a Tiruppur-based reporter of News 7 Tamil Nadu channel, has been reporting on violations and malpractices in the sale of liquor, according to local journalists. He apparently became a ‘target’ of liquor mafia.
It was learnt that Prabhu made a number of desperate calls to the police control room, informing them that he was being followed by a group of men on bikes without number plates and seeking their help.
The cops responded by asking Prabhu to file a complaint at the nearest police station. The goons ultimately caught up with the journalist and beat him up badly.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin condemned the attack on Prabhu.
“I am pained. Stringent action will be taken against whoever is responsible for this attack,” Stalin said.
He has also ordered a police inspector to be put on waiting list for his alleged inaction despite repeated pleas by Prabhu before he was attacked.
The CM announced Rs 3 lakh for Prabhu’s treatment.
