JSW Project In Odisha: Demolition Of Betel Vines Completed In Jagatsinghpur’s Panchayat

Paradip: The process of identification and demolition of betel vines as part of land acquisition for the proposed steel plant project of JSW in Dhinkia panchayat of the district has been completed.

The process was started on December 22, 2021 in Govindpur, Patana, Mahal  and Dhinkia villages of the panchayat. The counting and demolition of the betel vines in Dhinkia took 20 days of the period.

Maximum betel vines of 272 villagers were counted in Dhinkia village. While 261 vines have been demolished, 218 villagers have already been paid the compensation by the company. Some betel vines in the village have not been demolished due to dispute over measurement.

Similarly, 96 betel vines of 102 villagers have been demolished and 92 beneficiaries paid compensation in Govindpur. As many as 251 vines of 261 persons have been demolished and 239 beneficiaries paid compensation in Mahala while 214 betel vines of 225 villagers were brought down and 190 owners paid compensation in Patana.

Total Rs 19 crore has been paid as compensation to 757 beneficiaries during the process in the panchayat, according to a company release.
