Junior Doctors At Odisha’s VIMSAR Threaten Cease-Work Stir Over Pending Stipend

Sambalpur: Junior doctors of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla in Odisha’s Sambalpur have threatened to launch a cease-work agitation alleging non-payment of stipend and other irregularities.

The junior doctors threatened to launch the strike if their demands are not met by March 13.

The junior doctors alleged that they did not get their stipends for a few months due to financial irregularities in the institute. They demanded immediate steps to ensure payment of their pending stipend at the earliest.

As per information, the junior doctors met Dean of the Institute Prof Jayashree Dora on Thursday to press for their demands. However, despite a long discussion, no solution emerged.

The protesting doctors wore black badges on their hands. They have also submitted a memorandum with seven-point charter of demands to the VIMSAR Director for appropriate steps.

They said though VIMSAR has been granted autonomous status, it is yet to get complete autonomy and the Institute cannot conduct an examination forcing them to appear under Sambalpur University

Speaking on the issue, Dean Jayashree Dora said that the Institute will soon conduct its own examination and necessary steps are being taken for this. VIMSAR needs to be de-affiliated from Sambalpur University and permission is required from the NMC. Thereafter, it will be able to conduct the examination.
