Bhubaneswar: India paid the price for squandering a dozen penalty corners in the FIH Men’s Junior World Cup semifinal on Thursday, losing 1-4 to Germany.
Germany, who converted both their penalty corners, took the lead through one of them in the eighth minute. Odisha boy Sudeep Chirmako equalised with a field goal soon after.
But as India continued to waste opportunities, six-time champions Germany played businesslike hockey to stifle their opponents.
After the opening quarter ended 1-1, Germany scored a goal each in the next three quarters to run out comfortable victors.
Germany will face France, who overcame Spain 3-1 in the other semifinal.
India will have to contend with Spain in the bronze-medal clash.
