Just Walk Into These Vaccination Centres In Bhubaneswar For Covaxin Jab

Bhubaneswar: Yet to inoculated in the ‘100%’ vaccinated city? Now just walk into any UPHCs/UCHCs, which are vaccination centres, for the jabs, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) tweeted.

Notably, the BMC had claimed to have achieved the vaccination target in terms of doses. The city had set a target to administer vaccines to 8.5 lakh people aged 18 years and above, projected on the basis of the population as per the 2011 Census.

According to available data, 8.25 lakh of the eligible population in Bhubaneswar have received both Covaxin jabs. “Since our eligible population is 8.5 lakh and we have used doses more than the double, we have achieved 100 per cent vaccination,” BMC Commissioner Sanjay Singh was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

He told The New Indian Express that the first dose coverage has been more than 100 per cent while close to 94 per cent have been fully vaccinated. “The rest awaiting their second dose will be covered in the next few days,” he said.

However, it will not be appropriate to say Bhubaneswar is 100 per cent vaccinated since the population has swelled to almost 11 lakh in 2021.

Besides, over two lakh people from nearby districts have got jabs here. Many are believed to have picked Bhubaneswar due to the availability of vaccines, BMC sources said.

Till August 4, 19,04,563 doses of the vaccine had been administered. While 10,79,510 were inoculated with the first dose, 8,25,053 have received both the jabs. Therefore, 2,54,257 are yet to be fully vaccinated.

Since there is no rush for vaccines in the city, the commissioner said that the beneficiaries can now go to any nearby centre to get a jab. All they have to carry is ID proof.

“We are going to carry out mop-up activities to identify if any resident is left to be vaccinated,” he added.

Meanwhile, the BMC has closed all 10 drive-in vaccination centres in Bhubaneswar. “If you have taken your first dose at any drive-in centre and missed your second dose as per the schedule, you can take it at any UPHCs/UCHCs between 29-42 days,” the civic body tweeted.
