Bhubaneswar: Hot and humid weather conditions are set to return to Odisha after 2 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday.
The thunderstorm storm activity with strong winds, locally known as Kalbaisakhi, may continue till May 6. The weather agency has issued yellow warnings for several districts during these two days, following which the day temperature is expected to rise by 2-4°C across the state.
On May 5, thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Sambalpur. Light to moderate rain is also likely in coastal Odisha, Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur.
On May 6, thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph may occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar. There is also a warning for thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh and Sundargarh districts.
While there is no warning for May 7, light to moderate rain may occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Nabarangpur.
The IMD has issued yellow warning for hot and humid conditions at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati districts on May 8-9.
Light to moderate rain is also likely in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Ganjam and Kalahandi on May 8, and Malkangiri, Koraput, and Nabarangpur on May 9.
