Bhubaneswar: KALINGA Hospital Ltd. (KHL), Bhubaneswar organised a WALK-A-THON on the occasion of World Heart Day to highlight the importance of heart health and preventive care.

The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 400 people, including medical professionals, hospital staff, and local citizens, all coming together to raise awareness about cardiovascular health, KHL said in a press release on Saturday.

The Walkathon commenced at 6 am from the hospital premises, led by doctors, healthcare workers, and community leaders. The participants walked a 5-kilometer route, promoting the message of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through regular exercise, a balanced diet, and regular health check-ups.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Sitakantha Dash, Chairman of Kalinga Hospital Ltd., said, “heart disease continues to be one of the leading causes of death globally, an events like these are crucial in creating awareness about prevention. Walking, along with other healthy habits, can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease.”

“The accomplishments of this Walk-a-thon event is a result of Kalinga Hospital Ltd. (KHL)’s ongoing effort to unite local communities. This Walk-a-thon highlights our dedication of our wellbeing of our patients and the communities we serve and emphasizes the critical necessities of paying attention towards the heart health. KHL is committed to promoting cardiovascular health for both adult & Paediatric, and we believe raising awareness is the best way to prevention.” said, Nilanjana Mukherjee, Managing Director, KHL.

Senior Doctors of KHL, including Dr Sudipta Acharya, Dr Susant Shaila, Dr Pankaj Mishra and Dr Sushanta Patra, discussed with the participants about the heart health. Cardiac problems among youth are treatable with diagnosis as well as care. The statement said that detection on time and arriving at a hospital could help in restoring the functioning of the heart properly. However, the easiest way to prevent heart ailments is by being physically active and avoiding food that could trigger obesity, high BP or diabetes.

Dr P K Mishra, Medical Superintendent, KHL said, “The increasing cases of cardiovascular diseases are a worrisome aspect and there is a need to raise public awareness regarding the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. Walking regularly is one of the easiest ways to enhance heart health as it reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases.”

Exercising is not just about keeping fit, its about keeping the heart strong, said Devee Prasad Nanda, COO, KHL.
