Mumbai: Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman recently sparked a controversy by calling Vicky Kaushal’s period drama ‘Chhaava’ divisive.
“It is a divisive film. I think it cashed in on divisiveness, but I think the core of it is to show bravery,” Rahman said of ‘Chhaava’.
Following Rahman’s comments, actress-filmmaker and politician Kangana Ranaut trained guns on the music composer by calling him one of the most ‘prejudiced and hateful’ artist.
On Saturday, sharing a screenshot of Rahman’s interview with BBC Asian Network on her Instagram handle, Kangana wrote, “Dear @arrahman ji, I face so much prejudice and partiality in the film industry because I support a saffron party yet I must say I have not come across a man more prejudiced and hateful than you.”
She added, “I desperately wanted to narrate my directorial Emergency to you. Forget narration, you even refused to meet me. I was told you don’t want to be part of a propaganda film. Ironically, Emergency was called a masterpiece by all critics. Even opposition party leaders sent me fan leaders appreciating the film for its balanced and compassionate approach but you are blinded by your hate. I feel sorry for you #emergency.”

The political drama ‘Emergency’ was directed and co-produced by Kangana, who also portrayed the character of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film.
Kangana gave example from her own life and shared how Masaba Gupta didn’t want her to wear her brand’s saree.
“Forget films, the big designers who begged me to launch their jewellery and clothes in free fund ka campaigns because they claimed to be my best friends later refused to send my stylist clothes. They stopped talking to me or posting about me,” she wrote.
“One instance I will never forget is when I was wearing Masaba Gupta saree for Ram Janmbhoomi, and she told the stylist that I can’t go to Ram Janmbhoomi in her saree. I had already left from Lucknow for Ayodhya and it was not possible to change. I felt so humiliated and degraded that I quietly cried in my car. Later like other designers she told the stylist not to mention her or her brand’s name. Today AR Rahman ji shedding crocodile tears what about their own hate and prejudices?” she wrote.

On the work front, Kangana will next be seen marking her Hollywood debut with horror drama ‘Blessed Be the Evil’, alongside Tyler Posey and Scarlet Rose Stallone.
The film will be helmed by Anurag Rudra.
