Kanpur: Shivam Mishra, son of prominent tobacco businessman KK Mishra, was arrested on Thursday in connection with a high-profile crash involving a luxury Lamborghini on VIP Road that took place four days earlier.
The police took Shivam, a resident of Arya Nagar, into custody in Kanpur this morning and produced him before a local court, according to media reports.
The arrest follows an accident on Sunday afternoon when a Rs 10-crore Lamborghini Revuelto lost control and ploughed into other vehicles and pedestrians in a busy stretch of the city.
Initial reports said the luxury car first hit an autorickshaw and a parked motorcycle before crashing. At least three people were injured in the collision and several vehicles were damaged.
In the aftermath of the crash, there was significant controversy over who was driving the car. Shivam’s lawyer claimed in court that a driver named Mohan was behind the wheel and had paid medical expenses to one of the injured parties, and that Shivam was not driving at the time, reported Indian Express.
However, police investigations and evidence submitted in court indicated that Shivam himself was driving the Lamborghini when the crash occurred.
On Wednesday, the court rejected the surrender application of the driver Mohan, noting that police records did not list him as an accused, and directed that the vehicle undergo a technical examination before any decision on its release.

The Lamborghini crash case in Kanpur took a fresh turn after a new video surfaced allegedly showing attempts to remove the luxury car’s number plate moments after the accident, reported India Today.
According to the report, the new footage purportedly captures bouncers associated with Shivam Mishra, who was seated in the car at the time of the crash, trying to tear off the vehicle’s registration plate.
