Bhubaneswar: The Central government has decided to announce the Kapileswar temple near Bhubaneswar as a monument of national importance.
The Ministry of Culture, in a Gezette notification on May 5, said, “In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 4 of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958 (24 of 1958), the Central Government hereby gives notice of its intention to declare the said ancient monument to be of national importance.”
It also stated that any objection or suggestion to the declaration may be filed within two months from the date of issue of the notification with the Director General, Archaeological Survey of India.
Welcoming the Centre’s decision, Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi, in successive tweets, said Kapileswar temple will go to the protected monument list of the ASI which would ensure better preservation and upkeep.
“On the request of temple priests, I had visited the temple some time back and held discussion with the local residents. I had also met Union Minister Kishan Reddy in this regard,” she said.
