New Delhi: Amid the ongoing legal tussle over the inheritance of late Sunjay Kapur’s Rs 30,000-crore estate, his ex-wife Karisma Kapoor’s lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani said the actress doesn’t want any wealth for herself.
She is fighting for the rights of her children, Samaira and Kiaan, who are late Sunjay’s kids and lawful inheritors of his wealth, said the lawyer.
The senior advocate, representing the actress and her children, rubbished the claims made by Sunjay’s widow Priya Sachdev about Karisma’s kids being allotted ₹1,900 crore.
“If the estate is ₹30,000 crore and they are only getting ₹1,900 crore… actually, there are only five class-one heirs – mother, three children, and Priya – why is she not disclosing a will, if it’s genuine. The children are not getting whatever they are getting at the mercy of Mrs Kapur. These are assets of Sunjay Kapur; nobody is doing us a favour. Is Priya Sachdev going to forsake the remaining ₹28,000 crore that goes to her, what kind of rubbish is this? We are trying to fight for the children’s rightful inheritance,” Jethmalani was quoted as saying by News18.
Earlier this week, Priya’s lawyers told Delhi High Court that Karisma’s children were set to receive ₹1,900 crore.
Clarifying Karisma’s intentions, Jethmalani further said, “Karisma Kapoor doesn’t want anything for herself, the entire aim of this litigation is to secure her children in the manner in which her late ex-husband wanted them to be secure, which is as per a trust deed, which dealt with his assets in India, his corporate assets in India, and by and large his assets abroad, for which there was a will, which was never disclosed and neither has been a subject matter of probate, nor is it registered.”
Meanwhile, Sunjay’s mother Rani Kapur has also filed a legal suit against daughter-in-law Priya, thereby strengthening the legal front along with Karisma.
The Delhi HC has instructed Priya to disclose all assets belonging to her late husband. The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for October 9.
