Bengaluru: A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Karnataka has been arrested and suspended for alleged sexual harassment.
A video, allegedly showing the DSP sexually harassing a woman who had gone to him with a complaint, went viral on social media, police said on Friday.
Ramachandrappa, the 58-year-old officer, was posted as DSP in Karnataka’s Madhugiri.
In the viral video, the senior police officer can be seen misbehaving with the woman and acting inappropriately, reported PTI.
The alleged incident took place on Thursday when the woman visited DSP’s office in Tumakuru to lodge a complaint about a land dispute. The woman alleged that Ramachandrappa took her to a room and misbehaved with her, touching her inappropriately.
The video of the incident, recorded by a person from outside the window, was shared on social media. Soon it was all over internet.
The police department has taken the matter seriously and will not tolerate harassment or violence against women.
“We have registered a case under sections 68 (sexual intercourse by a person in authority), 75 (sexual harassment), and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and have arrested the DYSP. He has also been suspended from service,” he said.
