New Delhi: Tamil superstar Vijay experienced the flip side of politics as he was grilled by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for over six hours on Monday in connection with the deadly stampede at a campaign rally last September.
The actor-turned politician told CBI sleuths that neither his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) nor its functionaries were responsible for the stampede on September 25, India Today reported citing sources.
Vijay told investigators that he left the venue of the rally as he felt his presence could create chaos and ruckus.
He was also asked why he arrived at the venue several hours after the scheduled time.
His statements will be analysed and corroborated with those of police officials, who earlier claimed that a considerable delay by on the actor’s part contributed to the stampede on September 27, 2025, which claimed 41 lives and left over 60 people injured.
TVK leaders Aadhav Arjuna and Nirmal Kumar were among those who accompanied Vijay to Delhi on Monday.
Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces deployed several units around the CBI office to prevent any untoward incident.
CBI earlier questioned several TVK office-bearers and has also summoned former Tamil Nadu ADG (law and order) S Davidson Devasirvatham as part of the investigation.
Vijay is likely to be summoned again for further questioning, most likely after the Pongal festival.
