Mumbai: Swarupa Deshpande from Navi Mumbai, who recently appeared on TV quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) 12, was lauded by everyone, including the show’s host Amitabh Bachchan who called her an “inspiration” for her exemplary journey.
Deshpande, a single mother, took home prize money worth Rs 1,60,000. She is a Panvel resident, who has been financially supporting her two children single-handedly and fighting financial woes all on her own. She also dreams of building her own house, Hindustan Times (HT) reported.
Later in the show, Bachchan announced a scholarship of Rs 5 lakh for Deshpande’s elder daughter.
Commending her journey, Bachchan said, “What you are doing and the manner in which you are leading your life, you are an inspiration to women, particularly some women for whom it becomes almost like a burden as they tell themselves that since they are married, they have to stay there (with in-laws) even if one has to struggle in life or face disgrace (sic),” HT quoted the veteran actor as saying.
Deshpande answered nine questions, while simultaneously using all her lifelines. After she could not answer the 10th question, she withdrew from the game, winning Rs 1.6 lakh.
