Kejriwal’s Broom Makes Clean Sweep In Delhi; Find Out Who Said What On His Victory

In a repeat performance of 2015, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) made a clean sweep in Delhi, winning 63 seats out of the 70-member Assembly. All the heavweights, including Arvind Kejriwa himself, his deputy Manish Sisodia and Atishi Marlena won. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) settled for seven seats. A triumphant Kejriwal dedicated his win to ‘Kaam Ki Rajneeti’.

“I thank people of Delhi for reposing their faith in AAP for the third time. This is not my personal victory, this is the victory of Delhiites. This the victory of the people who consider me as their son and voted for us,” he said.

Addressing volunteers at the party office for the first time after he got a clear majority in the Delhi Assembly poll results on Tuesday, Arvind Kejriwal said the party’s landslide victory in the capital was a blessing of Lord Hanuman.

The Prime Minister was among the first to congratulate the party. Here’s what he said in a tweet:

“Congratulations to AAP and Shri @ArvindKejriwal Ji for the victory in the Delhi Assembly Elections. Wishing them the very best in fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Delhi.”

to which Arvind Kejriwal replied:

“Thank you so much sir. I look forward to working closely with the Centre to make our capital city a truly world class city,” he tweeted.

Here’s what Arvind Kejriwal’s family said:

Delhi people have given me a gift, could not have asked for a better gift. There was anxiety, several ups and downs were going on. We trusted our work. Delhi has made ‘kaam’ (work) victorious.

                                                                                                                                 Sunita Kejriwal, Arvind Kejriwal’s wife

There was a positivity among people regarding the work that AAP did. People were rejecting the negativity of other parties. They kept telling us, you don’t need to campaign, we are with you. We are very happy. All my friends called me and congratulated me. Opposition has got their answer. Politics of religion won’t work. Abuses won’t work. Schools, hospitals and work will get votes.

                                                                                                                                                         Harshita Kejriwal, daughter

Here’s what others said:

We accept people’s verdict. Maybe, people wanted a government that gives freebies from their own taxes.

                                                                                                                                      Pramod Sawant, Goa Chief Minister

Delhi people have given a clear message that elections can be won on the basis of work and development.

                                                                                                                                                           Sanjay Singh, AAP leader

BJP has lost the fifth state election in a row. It means we have somewhere failed to connect with the people of Delhi.

                                                                                                                                                         Kapil Mishra, BJP candidate

The people of Delhi have chosen ‘Jan Ki Baat’ over ‘Mann Ki Baat’. There is a (BJP-led central) government in Delhi with so called nationalistic views, which used the entire machinery and force in the Delhi Assembly polls but failed before the broom.

                                                                                                                 Uddhav Thackeray, Maharashtra Chief Minister

The results of Delhi elections will send a message all over the country that farmers, poor and youth will vote for development and prosperity. People have voted against the hatred politics of the BJP. The BJP is failing in its attempt to communalise politics.

                                                                                                                                               Akhilesh Yadav, Samajwadi Party

Thank you to all the voters of Delhi. Thank you to all the party workers for their hard work… We respect the mandate of people.

                                                                                                                                         Manoj Tiwari, Delhi BJP Chief

I congratulate @ArvindKejriwal and @AamAadmiParty for forming a government yet again in Delhi,on a massive mandate.

                                                                                                                                                                              MK Stalin, DMK

BJP accepts mandate given by people of Delhi, will play role of constructive opposition.

                                                                                                                                                                        JP Nadda, BJP Chief

The mandate given by Delhi has shown that they will vote on work and development,

                                                                                                                                                         Tejashwi Yadav, RJD leader

People of Delhi have proven that Delhi’s son Arvind Kejriwal isn’t a terrorist but a true patriot. He’s working for nation building, the work he’s doing is what constitutes patriotism. What the BJP is doing isn’t patriotism.

                                                                                                                                                                      Raghav Chadha, AAP

“Janta maalik hai.”

                                                                                                                                                Nitish Kumar,  Janata Dal United

My best wishes & congratulations to Mr Kejriwal and the AAP on winning the Delhi Assembly elections.

                                                                                                                                                                Rahul Gandhi. Congress

We were zero earlier, are zero now, so it’s a BJP defeat not ours.

Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Punjab Cabinet minister

Leaving aside electoral issues, one must work and fulfill promises. We must steer clear of the level of politics which was there (in Delhi). I congratulate Delhi for giving a decisive mandate fearlessly. I congratulate Arvind Kejriwal.

                                                                                                                            Aaditya Thackeray, Maharashtra Minister

Congratulations @ArvindKejriwal @AamAadmiParty and the people of Delhi who have given a befitting reply to BJP’s politics of hate and violence.

                                                                                                                                                                Sitaram Yechury, CPI
