Kerala Imposes Sunday Lockdown; Check Details
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala, where COVID-19 cases have spiralled, imposed a one-day lockdown on Sunday. Only emergency services are functioning in the state.
The state government on Friday announced to impose lockdowns on two Sundays, January 23 and 30, to curb COVID-19 cases.
Those working in essential services can travel with their identity cards. Medical stores, media offices, telecom, Internet and ambulance services will function normally.
Shops selling essential items such as milk, newspapers, fish, meat, fruits and vegetables are allowed to function from 7 am to 9 pm.
Streets looked deserted as vehicles stayed away from roads. Essential travel with valid documents have been allowed.
Kerala on Saturday reported 45,136 cases. The state on Thursday recorded 46,387 cases, its highest single-day spike since the pandemic began in 2020.
