Bhubaneswar: The women’s hockey team from Odisha put up a stellar performance at the Khelo India Youth Games 2025, clinching their first-ever gold medal at the Games.
Odisha defeated Jharkhand 3-1 in the shootout.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has congratulated the Odisha women’s hockey team for its success. “Congratulation to the women’s hockey team of Odisha for clinching the gold medal at the Khelo India Youth Games-2025. Members of the team have made the state proud with their achievement,” the CM posted on X.
Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik also extended his best wishes to the team. “Congratulate Odisha Women’s Hockey Team on winning gold medal in Khelo India Youth Games 2025 by defeating Jharkhand in 3-1. May the team continue its winning momentum and bring glory for the state. Best wishes.”
On Wednesday, athlete L Snigdha also brought glory to the state by winning a bronze medal in the 2000m steeplechase category. Odisha AM/NS India Gymnastics HPC gymnast Azad Laskar won a bronze medal in the uneven bars category.
Earlier, Odisha girls had pulled off a massive upset in the Games by beating defending champion Maharashtra in a close encounter 34-31 in Kho-kho competition on May 9. Maharashtra, however, scored a sweet revenge by defeating Odisha 34-25 in the boys’ final.
Meanwhile, Odisha weightlifting and athletics teams returned to Bhubaneswar on Thursday after winning 4 and 3 medals respectively.
The men’s football team, which won the silver medal in the ongoing games, were also felicitated by the Special Executive Officer of the Sports Department, Dheeraj Patnaik.
