Khurda Accounts For 45% Of New COVID Cases In Odisha; Marginal Rise In TPR

Bhubaneswar: A day after reporting less than 500 new infections, the daily COVID caseload in Odisha spiralled to 734 on Wednesday.

Among them, 101 are children below 18 years of age.

The daily cases count was 462 the previous day. The state had reported 510 new infections on Monday, 623 on Saturday, 628 on Friday, 580 on Thursday and 457 on Wednesday.

According to the I & PR department, 424 of the new cases are from quarantine and 310 local contacts. Khurda district saw the highest 335 people testing positive for the virus, followed by Cuttack (91) and Jagatsinghpur (32). Five districts reported nil cases.

Besides, 81 are from the state pool.

With these cases being detected from 69326 samples, the test positivity rate rose to 1.05 per cent compared to 0.08 per cent the previous day.

Odisha now has 5521 active cases.

Meanwhile, the COVID toll in the state mounted to 8150 with four more deaths being confirmed in the last 24 hours.
