Khurda & Cuttack Account For 55% Of New COVID Infections; None Infected In 5 Dists

Bhubaneswar: The active cases tally in Odisha touched 7087 on Friday as 745 more people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.

Among them, 119 infectees are in the age group of 18 years old, which is 15.9 per cent of the fresh infections reported from 25 districts in the state.

Odisha had seen 771, 762, 638, 609 and 719 new cases on September 9, 8, 7, 6, and 5 while the infection rate among children on these days was 15 per cent, 13.3 per cent, 14.5 per cent, 20 per cent and 16.27 per cent respectively.

According to the I & PR department, 435 of the new infections are from quarantine and 310 are local contacts. Khurda registered the highest of 297 cases followed by Cuttack at 120. These two districts account for 55 per cent of the caseload. Balangir, Boudh, Gajapati, Kalahandi and Jharsuguda reported nil cases.

With these cases detected from 66,106 samples, the test positivity rate in the state stood at 1.12 per cent.
