Bhubaneswar: More disturbing details have tumbled out on the murder of a 40-year-old woman by her two children in the city.
The woman was bludgeoned to death by her two minor sons with a crowbar following an altercation at their rented flat at Pradhan Sahi under Airfield police limits here on Wednesday night.
According to police sources, the father of the two accused children, Nihar Pradhan, is undergoing a life term for murder. He along with 12 others had killed one Amit Pradhan on May 13, 2011.
Prior to taking to crime, Nihar worked in a private company in Rourkela.
During interrogation, the boys, aged 12 and 15, reportedly had lied that their father worked at Rourkela Steel Plant.
On Thursday, DCP Bhubaneswar Umashankar Das identified the deceased as Binodini Mishra. “She was killed around 11.30 pm on Wednesday. Her two minor sons were involved in the incident. We have detained them and seized the murder weapon,” he said.
The DCP had then attributed family dispute as one of the major reasons for the crime. Police also suspect the murder to be pre-planned instead of a crime committed in a fit of rage as claimed by the two accused boys, according to some media reports.
Binodini allegedly was alcoholic and used to abuse and beat the boys in an inebriated state almost every day.
After hitting their mother with a crowbar, the boys tried to stop her from bleeding with polythene, but she died on the spot. They requested a neighbour to call an ambulance and left the flat. They told him that their mother was attacked by someone.
Police apprehended the boys, who were hiding in a nearby apartment, after a few hours of search.
A case has been registered under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC.
