Bhubaneswar: Plans are afoot to transform Jayadev Pitha in Kenduli, the birthplace of renowned Sanskrit poet Jayadeva on the banks of the Prachi River in Khurda district, into a globally-recognised spiritual centre.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi laid the foundation of the Rs 7 crore project on Wednesday. The project aims to establish Jayadev Pitha as a hub for literature, culture, and spirituality, featuring flower gardens, 10 lotus ponds, lush greenery with various plants and creepers, an entrance gate, a Dasavatar plaza, a beautified lotus pond, groves, craft shops, and food courts to restore the natural ambiance of Jayadeva’s era.
Speaking at a Jayadev Jayanti event, Majhi highlighted that Jayadeva and his work, Geeta Govinda, are central to Odisha’s cultural identity. He emphasized that celebration of Jayadev’s birthplace is a part of the government’s commitment to honouring Odisha’s revered figures.
The CM instructed Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi to oversee the site’s transformation into a model village and directed the Culture, Tourism, and Information & Public Relations departments to jointly prepare a detailed project report for the site’s development.
