Berhampur: Saturday saw two Surat-returned youths testing positive for COVID-19 in Ganjam, the following day migrants workers created ruckus alleging sub-standard food at quarantine centres at Bhatakumarada and Bhabandha in Purusottampur block where they are being kept after returning to the home state.
A video in which they are seen throwing food and abusing SHG members also went viral on Sunday. Another 120 migrant workers fled two quarantine centres – Janata High School and Adarsha Vidyalaya – at Beguniapada panchayat alleging non-supply of food and water. While local police
nabbed 50 of them, the rest managed to walk to their respective homes in nearby areas.
Following these incidents, the Ganjam administration has released the food menu for the migrant workers undergoing mandatory quarantine in the district.
According to the menu, the migrants are served puri and aloo curry, chuda upma and aloo matar, suji upma and aloo matar, vermicell upma and aloo matar and masala upama for breakfast.
For lunch, they are being served mixed vegetable fry, mango chutney, egg/fish/chicken curry and paneer/parval/mushroom curry for vegetarians with rice and dal/dalma.
Snacks time is tea with biscuit or mudhi-mixture. Rice, dalma with tomato/mango chutney, mixed vegetable fry and chole masala/soya parval for dinner.
Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange had earlier warned the returnees against such behaviour. “If this attitude persists, the quarantined persons would be shifted to isolation centres in other districts and the quarantine period extended to 60 days. Besides, they will be deprived of the incentive of Rs 2,000 after completion of their quarantine period,” he added.
