New Delhi: With the New Year, many rules that will have major impact the normal lifestyle of common man in Odisha and the country at large have come into force.
As you start the life afresh with the new year, putting the bitter and painful experience of 2020 behind, here are some rules to keep in mind:
Traffic Norms
Traffic norms like wearing helmet by pillion driver of two-wheeler is strictly enforced from the first day of 2021 in Odisha. Anybody violating the rule will be imposed heavy penalty, warned Transport minister Padmanabh Behera on December 31, 2020.
Besides, strict checking will be carried out against driving on wrong side of the roads, speed driving and driving under influence of alcohol. These offences would also lead to penalty of large amount.
FASTags Mandatory
FASTags have become mandatory for all four-wheelers. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a notification in this regard recently. FASTag has become mandatory for M and N class four-wheelers sold before December 1, 2017. For this, the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 were amended.
Rule Of Cheque Payments
To prevent banking fraud, the Reserve Bank of India has introduced the ‘positive pay system’ for cheque. Under this rule, re-confirmation of key details may be needed for payments beyond Rs 50,000. While availing this facility is at the discretion of the account holder, banks may consider making it mandatory in case of cheques for amount of Rs 5 lakh and above.
WhatsApp To Withdraw Support
WhatsApp is ending its support on older Android and iOS phones. The popular messaging app will no longer support phones running Android 4.3 or older, and iOS 9 or older. This means iPhone 5 series and older ones will no longer support WhatsApp.
Landline To Mobile Phone Calls
From the New Year Day, the callers will have to add ‘0’ prefix for making calls from landlines to mobile phones in the country.
GST-Registered Small Biz
Small businesses with a turnover of up to Rs 5 crore will be required to file only four GST sales returns, or GSTR-3B instead of 12. This would impact about 94 lakh taxpayers, i.e. about 92 per cent of the entire GST tax base.
LPG Refill Booking
To make booking of LPG refill cylinders more easy, the Indian Oil has introduced missed call service. Now consumers can book LPG refill cylinders through missed call. You can dial 8454955555 from your registered mobile number and the LPG refill will reach your doorsteps.
This was launched by Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in Bhubaneswar on January 1. Notably, the customers in Bhubaneswar can also apply for new connection through this facility.
