Kolkata: Ahead of the second phase voting in Bengal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said ‘Anga, Banga and Kalinga’, the ancient kingdoms that are present-day Assam, Bengal and Odisha, would have a BJP government next month. He asserted that people voted with enthusiasm for a change in the first phase of the elections.
Shah, addressing a rally in Kolkata, claimed the BJP would win “more than 110 of the 152 seats” that voted in the first phase. He also said that if the BJP forms the government, the state would get a “Bengal-born, Bengali-speaking” chief minister.
“People of Bengal broke all records in the first phase and voted with enthusiasm for a change,” Shah, who is camping in the state, said. He referred to the over 92% turnout.
While the BJP came to power in Odisha in 2024, it is seeking a third consecutive term in Assam. It is also aiming to oust the 15-year-old TMC government in West Bengal.
“BJP will ensure women’s safety, and abolish ‘bhaipo tax’ (referring to Mamata’s nephew) and syndicate raj in Bengal,” he said, as quoted by Hindu. He also claimed that the party will also roll out a red carpet for investors.
Votes for all 294 Assembly seats will be counted on May 4.
