Mumbai: Comedian Munawar Faruqui, winner of ‘Bigg Boss 17’, got married to makeup artist Mehzabeen Coatwala in May last year in an intimate ceremony.
During a candid conversation with filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan on her YouTube channel, Munawar revealed that he and Mehzabeen got married within 5 months of knowing each other.
Munawar shared that he got married because he wanted his son Mikael to stay with him.
“When I came out of Bigg Boss, I was working a lot. Mikael was living with my sister then. He was with me for a week and we spent a lot of time together and when he was leaving, I felt like I don’t want him to go. I felt that he needs me. He kept hugging me the whole time,” Munawar shared.
“When he was leaving, I felt like he needs me and more than him, I think I need him. In that moment, I thought what is it that I should do so I can make him stay with me. For him, I took that decision,” he added.
Recalling the moment he proposed Mehzabeen, he said, “I asked her the next day, ‘Are you okay marrying me?’ I stayed with that decision the whole night. I felt that Mikael should stay with me, I was just praying for that.”
Munawar didn’t make any official announcement after the wedding.
It was only when a fan shared the details online, and actress Hina Khan was spotted attending the wedding that the news went viral.
Munawar, whose first marriage ended in divorce, earlier dated Nazila Sitaishi. Nazila announced their breakup when Munawar was in the Bigg Boss house.
