Kolkata: With the alleged details of the autopsy report of Kolkata rape and murder victim being circulated on social media, the Kolkata Police on Sunday summoned two prominent doctors and a senior BJP leader for allegedly spreading misinformation.
They have also been accused of revealing the identity of the victim, a trainee doctor of RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata.
Notices were issued to Dr Kunal Sarkar, Dr Subarna Goswami, and BJP leader and former MP Locket Chatterjee. They were asked to appear at the Kolkata Police headquarters at Lalbazar by 3 pm on Sunday.
The police alleged that Sarkar and Goswami shared fake information related to the investigation and postmortem report of the victim. Goswami had reportedly given interviews to media outlets claiming that he had access to the autopsy report. According to the reports being circulated on social media, the autopsy report allegedly contains horrific details like the presence of 150 mg of semen in victim’s body and a fractured pelvic bone, hinting at gang rape. Kolkata Police have refuted these claims.
Chatterjee has been summoned for allegedly disclosing the identity of the victim, which is a violation under Indian law. Kolkata Police has registered two separate cases—one for the dissemination of misleading information and another for disclosure of the victim’s identity. On August 9, the semi-nude body of the trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
