Land Acquisition For JSW Project: 10,000 Fruit-Bearing Trees In Private Land Identified In Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur

Paradip: As part of land acquisition for the proposed steel plant of JSW in Dhinkia Nuagaon and Gadkujang panchayats under Ersama tehsil of Jagatsinghpur district, the process of identifying and counting of trees is underway.

Even as measurement and demolition of betel vines has reached the final stage in Govindpur village, the counting of fruit-bearing trees has been going on in full swing. More than 5,600 trees have been counted and more than 10,000 trees identified by four teams in the village till date.

In order to pay compensation to the owners of the trees, the Horticulture department had announced an enhanced price list in May 2021. As per the new prices, minimum cost of a cashew tree has been fixed at Rs 415 and maximum of Rs 9,510.

Similarly, the minimum price of a mango tree has been fixed at Rs 967 and maximum at Rs 12,790; coconut tree at Rs 1,405 and Rs 8,110; moringa tree at Rs 264 and Rs 1,104; jackfruit tree at Rs 1078 and Rs 9,844 and black berry tree at Rs 175 and Rs 4,000.

The identification of trees of the four forest committees in Gobindpur village will be started after the process for the local people is completed.

Meanwhile, 857 betel vines have been measured and 671 of those demolished till January 27. More than Rs 11 crore has been paid to 485 people as compensation.
