Land Fraud: Man Arrested For Duping People Of Over Rs 1 Crore In Cuttack
Cuttack: Police have arrested a person for allegedly duping people of more than Rs 1 crore on the plea of providing plots of land and shops at prominent places in Odisha’s Cuttack city.
Speaking to media persons on Tuesday, Cuttack SP Arun Swain said Barada Prasanna Behera of College Square in the city had lodged a complaint at Malgodown police station alleging that Amit Sahu of Shri Bihar Colony had cheated him of Rs 4.8 lakh on the plea of providing a shop near the under-construction bus stand.
“As per preliminary investigation, Amit has duped several people in the city. The victims have lodged complaints at different police stations. We are compiling all the cases for further investigation. Besides land issues, he has been accused of duping people on the plea of providing jobs also,” said the SP.
According to police sources, Amit used to allure the people by showing vacant plots and shops in fake document of Cuttack Development Authority (CDA) and Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC). He was also trying to win their confidence by stating that he had close relations with influential people in both CDA and CMC.
He had promised to arrange allocation of shops in vending zones of new bus terminal, Chandi temple and College Square. After taking advance money amounting to several lakhs of rupees, he had given fake receipts and document from CDA and CMC.
After collecting the money from the people, Amit was absconding for the last 4 months. Some of the vistims found him moving in CDA market complex on Monday and caught hold of him. Later, they handed over Amit to police.
