New Delhi: The Inter State Cell of the Crime Branch, Delhi Police, have arrested two persons and seized 288 kg of Cannabis (Ganja) sourced from Odisha. Officials have called this a major breakthrough in its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and aligns with the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’.
According to Aditya Gautam, DCP, Crime Branch, Delhi Police, a national-level, well-organised drug trafficking syndicate operating from Odisha to several states including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and the Delhi-NCR region was busted during the operation.
The approximate value of the seized Ganja is Rs 50 lakh.
“Acting on specific intelligence received on Sunday, a dedicated team laid a trap near Shamshad Ghat, Sarai Kale Khan, New Delhi, to intercept a truck, suspected to be carrying narcotics. The informer identified the truck and it was intercepted. The two persons in the vehicle were arrested,” an official said.
The two have been identified as Mukesh Dahiya (39) and Rajesh Dahiya (29) of Bhatt village in the Sonipat district of Haryana. Mukesh was the owner of the truck and Rajesh the driver.
“During the search, conducted in accordance with Section 50 of the NDPS Act, a concealed cavity in the truck’s loading body was discovered. From the cavity, 139 plastic bags, containing a total of 288 kg of Cannabis (Ganja), were recovered. Consequently, an FIR under Sections 20 and 25 of the NDPS Act was registered at PS Crime Branch,” the official added.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the narcotics were sourced from Odisha. They were intended to be delivered to a recipient in Delhi. Mukesh and Rajesh Dahiya are being interrogated for further leads to unearth the broader network and get to suppliers involved in this illegal drug syndicate, it was mentioned.
“It has come to light that Mukesh was a truck driver himself. He purchased the vehicle in 2025 and then used it to transport Cannabis (Ganja) from Odisha on a regular basis. Rajesh has been working as a driver for the last 8-9 years. Further investigation is in progress,” the official said.
