Last Rites Of Odisha’s First COVID-19 Patient Performed At 3 AM Today

Bhubaneswar: The last rites of the first COVID-19 deceased in Odisha were performed at 3 am on Wednesday in accordance with the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare guidelines.

It was conducted under the supervision of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation in the presence of close family members of the deceased.

The 72-year-old man died on April 6 at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, where he was admitted on April 4 for respiratory distress. The test results received from RMRC on April 7 confirmed he had contracted the novel coronavirus.

On Tuesday, Government’s Chief Spokesperson on COVID-19 Subroto Bagchi informed the media that AIIMS authorities will hand over the body to the state government after completing the required formalities and the funeral will be held under its supervision.
