Law Minister Assures ‘Crime-Free Odisha For Women’ By 2036 Amid Outrage Over Cuttack Gangrape
Bhubaneswar/Cuttack: Amid statewide outrage over alleged gang-rape of a girl college student in Odisha’s Cuttack city, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Friday assured of strictest punishment in women-related crimes.
Speaking to the media, he said that the BJP government has zero tolerance towards any crime against women and steps are being taken to make Odisha ‘a crime-free state for women’ by 2036.
“The government has warned against any dilly-dallying in connection with domestic violence, torture, rape and gang rape incidents. CM Mohan Majhi has already assured strictest of punishment against the accused in the Cuttack gang-rape case. Amendments to the law will be made to increase prosecution and conviction rate in women-related crimes,” he said.

A 19-year-old girl of Cuttack city was allegedly gang-raped by her boyfriend and his friends after being blackmailed using an obscene video. Badambadi Police have arrested six persons, including a minor, in connection with the crime following a complaint on November 4. The videos from their mobile phones have been recovered and the devices sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory in Bhubaneswar for examination.
