Mumbai: The trailer of Akshay Kumar’s ‘Laxmmi Bomb’ was released on Friday and the actor has undoubtedly nailed the character of a transgender in the movie.
However, ‘Laxmmi Bomb’ is not the first film in which a transgender’s role has been essayed so well.
Here’s a list of actors who grabbed eyeballs playing eunuch’s character on the silver screen:
Ashutosh Rana in ‘Sangharsh’: He played the character of Lajja Shankar Pandey, a psychopath transgender who sacrificed children to attain immortality. Ashutosh’s role of a religious fanatic transgender won him several accolades.
Paresh Rawal in ‘Tamanna’: The actor played the character of a eunuch who rescues a child from the garbage bin and raises her. The child was Pooja Bhatt, who played the role of Tamanna.
Sadashiv Amrapurkar in ‘Sadak’: He portrayed the role of a troublesome eunuch in the Mahesh Bhatt film. He won the ‘best villain’ award for his role. The film featured Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt as the lead pair.
Prashant Narayanan in ‘Murder 2’: The actor played the character of a psychopathic transgender in the thriller starring Emraan Hashmi. The transgender tortured and killed hookers in the movie.
Mahesh Manjrekar in ‘Rajjo’: The actor-director played the role of a begum who runs a brothel, in the film starring Kangana Ranaut and Paras Arora. Manjrekar was greatly appreciated for his role.
Akshay Kumar in ‘Laxmmi Bomb’: In the trailer, Akki is seen being possessed by a transgender. The sneak peek itself shows that Akshay has done a commendable job. The film is slated to release in November.
