Bhubaneswar: The upper age limit to apply for the post of lecturers in government degree colleges has been raised to 48 years from 33 years.
The announcement was made by the Odisha Government on Thursday as it is set to hold recruitment for 606 vacant positions in degree colleges. The Department of Higher Education (DHE) said that steps are being taken to amend the Orissa Education Service (College Branch) Recruitment Rules accordingly.
It asked the Odisha Public Service Commission not to publish any advertisement about the recruitment until the rules are amended to increase the upper age limit.
As per sources, recruitment will be carried out to fill the vacancies in 52-degree colleges.
Out of the 606 vacant posts, 136 posts have been reserved for Scheduled Tribe, 98 for Scheduled Caste, 66 for socially and economically backward classes, 24 for persons with disability, 18 posts in the ex-servicemen category and six for sportspersons.
Candidates need to possess a masters degree in the concerned subject. UGC-NET is compulsory for candidates as per UGC rules.
