Legendary Hockey International Michael Kindo Passes Away
Rourkela: Legendary hockey international Michael Kindo passed away at the Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) on Thursday. He was 74.
Born on June 20, 1947 in Simdega in Jharkhand, Michael shifted to Odisha and made Rourkela his base.
A brilliant defender, he played as a full-back and was instrumental in bringing laurels to the country.
He represented India in the 1972 Munich Olympics, where India won the bronze medal. He scored a goal each against England, Mexico and New Zealand.
Michael was a member of the Indian team that won the 1975 World Cup in Kuala Lumpur, beating Pakistan 3-2 in a thrilling final.
He was part of the national team that won silver medal in the 1973 World Cup in Amsterdam.
In recognition of an outstanding career, he was conferred with the Arjuna Award in 1972.
