Jajpur: A Fast Track Court in Odisha’s Jajpur district sentenced a couple to life imprisonment for killing their pregnant minor daughter around nine years back.
The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 while awarding jail term for Nakul Jena and his wife Sanju Jena, who were found guilty of killing their 15-year-old pregnant daughter.
The incident had taken place in Lakshmi Narayanpur under the jurisdiction of Binjharpur police station in 2016.
Initially, Nakul had been arrested based on complaint filed with the police by a woman from his village. He had confessed to the murder during his interrogation.
Investigation had revealed that the girl, then a Class X student in a local school, was in a relationship with a married man and was in constant touch with him despite opposition from her parents.
After finding her pregnant, the girl’s father Nakul decided to kill her strangulated her to death while she was sleeping. The following day, the victim’s family members had discreetly cremated her body and thrown her charred remains into a nearby river, according to case record.
During investigation, police later established complicity of Nakul’s wife Sanju in the crime.
The judgement was pronounced on the strength of three witnesses and evidence.
