Bhubaneswar: Heatwave prevailed in Odisha as almost half its area sizzled with temperature reaching 40 degree Celsius in 15 places on Thursday.
According to evening bulletin of regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, 10 places recorded maximum temperature of 42 degree Celsius on the day with western Odisha accounting for 8 places. On Wednesday, as many as 19 places registered 40 degree Celsius or more, while it was eight places on Tuesday.
Balangir surpassed Titlagarh as the hottest place in the state recording maximum temperature of 45.3 degree Celsius. Titlagarh, which recorded state’s highest temperature of 45.2 degree on Wednesday, was just below Balangir with 45.2 degree on Thursday.
Titlagarh was followed by Boudh with 44 degree, Bhawanipatna 43.5, Malkangiri 43, Jharsuguda 42.7, Bargarh 42.6, Nuapada 42.4, Sambapur 42 and Sundargarh 42.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack registered day temperature of 33.2 and 33 degree Celsius respectively from 36.6 and 37 degree on Wednesday. But high humidity level made life miserable in twin cities. While relative humidity in Bhubaneswar at 8.30 am was 88%, it was 85% in Cuttack.
The IMD has issued yellow warning for several districts of the state due to heat for next two days. It forecast that heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places in Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Kalahandi and Nuapada on Friday.
Similarly, heatwave condition is very likely at one or two places in Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Kalahandi,
Nuapada and Boudh districts on Saturday.
