Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha are likely to get some respite from the scorching heat as the Regional Centre of India Meteorological Centre has predicted light rain with lightning and thunderstorm till June 2.
The IMD has issued Yellow Warning for 10 Odisha districts. Thunderstorm with lightning is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Kalahandi till 8.30 am of Monday.
Similar Yellow Warning has been issued for 7 districts from 8.30 am of Monday till 8.30 am of Tuesday. The districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam and Kandhamal are likely to experience thunderstorm with lightning.
On Saturday, 12 stations in the state recorded maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius or more.
According to the data provided by local office of IMD here, the hottest places in the state on Saturday were Balangir (42.2), Boudh (42), Titilagarh (41.8), Parlakhemundi (41.5), Bargarh (41), Malkangiri (41), Bhawanipatna (41), Baripada (41), Sambalpur (40.6), Kirei (40.3) and Sundargarh (40). Bhubaneswar had recorded 37.8 degrees and Cuttack 39.6 degrees maximum temperature on Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile, southwest monsoon has hit Kerala coast on Sunday, three days ahead of scheduled June 1.
“The monsoon arrived in Kerala three days ahead of its scheduled onset date. It has advanced into the remaining parts of south Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area, most parts of Kerala, some parts of south Tamil Nadu, some parts of Gulf of Mannar and some more parts of southwest Bay of Bengal,” the IMD said.
