Live Streaming Classes: YouTube Notice To Odisha Govt On Copyright Violation

Bhubaneswar: Youtube, the American online video sharing and social media platform owned by Google, has sent a notice to the Odisha government alleging copyright violation by the teachers.

Amid the COVID pandemic, the government had introduced YouTube classes for the students from Class I to X.

In a notice to the Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA), the YouTube team said that those engaged by the state government for the live streaming of online classes are plagiarising audio-visual clippings, videos, animation and photos uploaded earlier by the other teachers.

Maintaining that this is a gross violation of the Copyright Act, YouTube has deleted some contents that have been copied and uploaded.

Acting on the notice, OSEPA had asked the Directorate of Secondary Education to urgently intervene in the matter.

Expressing concern over the matter, the Directorate has asked the District Education Officers (DEOs) to direct the teachers to ensure that there will be no further use of the third-party content during the live-streaming of online classes on the YouTube platform.
