Konark: Alleging custodial death of a man, locals blocked the road at College Square here on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Jogendra Das. He belonged to Malda village under Astarang police limits.
Das was arrested a month back for his alleged involvement in a dispute during Gaja Laxmi Puja. He was released on bail on medical grounds and admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
However, he died this morning.
His family members have alleged that Nimapada police had arrested Jogendra in a false case without any investigation and beaten him mercilessly. They also alleged Jogendra died as a result of mental and physical torture by the police. They have written to Puri SP in this regard.
The situation was brought under control when the Tehsildar and police reached the spot.
