Loot Attempt On IPS Officer Sagarika Nath’s Parents In Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: Amid the rising snatching incidents in Bhubaneswar, Sunday saw an alleged attempt by some unidentified miscreants to loot valuables from parents of IPS officer Sagarika Nath, who is currently serving as Balasore SP, near AMRI Hospital in Kolathia area within Bharatpur police limits.
According to sources, two bike-borne miscreants intercepted their car and approached them on the pretext of seeking direction for a location while they were on their way to their residence at Satya Sai Enclave and tried to snatch away the valuables. When the IPS officer’s mother resisted, they smashed the windscreen and driver side window of the car with an iron rod which he was carrying on the bike. Her husband, who was on the driver’s seat, then drove the vehicle into their bike. The miscreants fell down and were forced to flee leaving their motorcycle behind.
The matter came to the fore after family of the IPS officer lodged a written complaint in this connection with Bharatpur police. Sources said both the miscreants were wearing helmets and the couple stated in the complaint that they even manhandled them.
Police have seized the motorcycle bearing a fake registration number and examining footage of nearby CCTV cameras to identify the accused. A case under has been registered under Sections 354B, 394 and 397 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
“The incident took place around 8.30 pm. The miscreants tried to loot my parents but failed. We have lodged a complaint in this regard with police. Probe is underway,” Nath told the media.
Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh later told the media that the two accused involved in the incident have been identified and would be arrested soon.
On Sunday, CCTV footage of two bike-borne miscreants snatching a gold chain from a woman at Vani Vihar had gone viral. Following which, patrolling was intensified in the city.
